Connect, Converse, Thrive: Communication Skills for the Modern Era  (9th September 2024)

On September 9th, 2024, the Department of English organized a seminar titled, "Connect, Converse, Thrive: Communication Skills for the Modern Era" hosting Ms. A. Mahalakshmi, Teaching Associate, Department of Career Guidance Cell, Faculty of Science and Humanities, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur, as the guest speaker. The primary aim of the seminar was to equip participants with essential communication skills that are crucial for success in today’s interconnected world. It focused on enhancing the ability to build meaningful connections, engage in impactful conversations, and effectively manage digital communication. The overarching goal was to prepare participants for both personal and professional interactions in a dynamic, globalized environment.

Ms. Mahalakshmi expertly guided participants through the session, emphasizing the importance of emotional intelligence and empathy in building strong relationships. She provided insights into the art of effective conversations, covering active listening, non-verbal communication, and techniques to make interactions more impactful. She also addressed the complexities of digital communication, offering strategies for maintaining professionalism and authenticity online. She concluded by discussing cross-cultural communication, stressing the need for adaptability and sensitivity in diverse environments. 

The session enabled the participants become more aware of active listening and non-verbal cues, while also empowering them to adapt to diverse audiences and thrive in both personal and professional spheres.
