Waste Not – For Sustainable Living – Seminar

On 19th February 2026, the IQAC, ECO Club, and NSS Unit jointly organized a seminar titled “Waste Not – For Sustainable Living.” The session was presided over by the Chief Guest, Mrs. S. Rukmani, Managing Trustee of AWCEM Foundation.

Mrs. S. Rukmani delivered an insightful and practical session on effective waste management practices. She explained the importance of segregating waste into biodegradable and non-biodegradable categories and demonstrated simple techniques that students can implement in their homes and on campus.

The speaker elaborated on the 3Rs — Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle — and provided real-life examples to illustrate how small lifestyle changes can significantly reduce waste production. She emphasized minimizing single-use plastics and adopting sustainable alternatives.

A major highlight of the session was her discussion on micro waste, particularly micro plastics, and their harmful impact on sea animals and marine ecosystems. She explained how improper disposal of waste eventually reaches oceans, causing severe damage to marine biodiversity.
