Benefits of Yoga for Students

nternational Yoga Day 2026 Celebration
On 22nd June 2026, the IQAC, NSS Unit, and the Department of Physical Education of Annai Violet Arts and Science College jointly organized the International Yoga Day 2026 celebration under the theme “Benefits of Yoga for Students.” The programme was conducted to emphasize the significance of yoga in promoting physical health, mental well-being, emotional stability, and spiritual wellness among students.
Dr. C. Initha Lebanon Ebency, Principal, addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of celebrating International Yoga Day. In her address, she emphasized the role of yoga in developing a healthy body, a peaceful mind, and a disciplined lifestyle among students.
Dr. Thenmozhi, Head of the Department of Physical Education, served as the Resource Person for the programme. She delivered an informative and inspiring session on the importance of incorporating yoga into students’ daily lives. During her presentation, she explained how regular yoga practice helped reduce stress, improve concentration, enhance memory, strengthen immunity, and maintain overall physical fitness. She also demonstrated several basic yoga postures and guided the students in performing each asana using the correct techniques. In addition, she shared practical yoga tips that students could easily incorporate into their daily routines.
The yoga practices demonstrated during the session included:
- Tadasana (Mountain Pose) for improving posture and balance.
- Vrikshasana (Tree Pose) for enhancing concentration and stability.
- Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose) for strengthening the spine and improving flexibility.
- Vajrasana (Thunderbolt Pose) for promoting better digestion and relaxation.
- Pranayama (Breathing Exercises) for reducing stress and promoting mental calmness.
- Simple stretching exercises for improving flexibility and relieving muscle tension.
She also emphasized the importance of proper breathing techniques, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and dedicating a few minutes each day to regular yoga practice. The students actively participated in the yoga session and performed the various asanas under her guidance with great enthusiasm. Nearly 40 NSS volunteers participated enthusiastically, making the programme highly interactive, informative, and successful.
