Tree Planting

The NSS unit of Annai Violet Arts and Science College, in association with Arivu Karunai Illam Charitable Trust, organized an Extension Activity – Tree Planting Programme on 18th August 2025 to celebrate the 79th Independence Day. The initiative aimed to promote environmental awareness and encourage students to take meaningful steps towards building a greener and more sustainable future.The Department of Biochemistry played an active role in this eco-conscious effort, with 50 enthusiastic students from the department participating in the programme.The event was graced by the presence of Tr. R. Frank D. Ruban, B.A., Assistant Commissioner of Police – Ambattur, Avadi Police Commissionerate, Chennai, who served as the Chief Guest. In his insightful address, he emphasized the importance of adopting simple and effective habits to protect our environment. His key suggestions included:
- Reducing plastic usage
- Opting for eco-friendly modes of transportation such as bicycles
- Choosing sustainable and environmentally friendly products
- Conserving energy and water
- Reducing and managing waste properly
Following his speech, all participants took a pledge to safeguard nature, reaffirming their commitment to being responsible stewards of the environment.
The highlight of the event was the tree planting activity, conducted at Chennai Korattur Lake West Area (under Pattaravakkam Railway Bridge). The Chief Guest, along with students and faculty members, planted saplings in the area, marking a significant step towards environmental conservation and the restoration of local green spaces.
The programme was a resounding success, fostering a strong sense of environmental responsibility and awareness among the students and all those involved.
