Seminar – Tragic Vision in the plays of Shakespeare

The IQAC & Department of English organized a seminar on “Tragic Vision in the Plays of Shakespeare” on 31st July 2025 at 10:30 a.m. in the Seminar Hall. Dr. Mary Surya Kala, Assistant Professor of English at Rajalakshmi Institute of Technology, Kuthambakkam, served as the resource person. Dr. Mary Surya Kala presented a well-structured PowerPoint that explained the tragic flaws (hamartia) of the protagonists, the role of their actions in determining fate, and the influence of morality and ethical choices in shaping the course of events. She highlighted the interplay between free will and destiny, demonstrating how each character’s decisions lead to their downfall. The presentation also explored the intricacies of human nature, ambition, and moral dilemmas as portrayed in Hamlet, Othello, King Lear, and Macbeth. The session concluded with an interactive discussion, where students posed insightful questions on character motivations and the timeless relevance of Shakespeare’s tragic vision.
