Seminar -Next Generation Vaccine Discovery: Role of Bioinformatics in Predicting Immunogenic Epitopes

On February 13th 2026, the IQAC and Department of Microbiology jointly organized a seminar program titled “Next Generation Vaccine Discovery: Role of Bioinformatics in Predicting Immunogenic Epitopes” at the Mini Seminar Hall, Annai Violet Arts and Science College. The resource person, Mr. Koushik Tamilchelvam, Founder & director, Quantee Data Tech explained a revolutionary approach of genome-driven antigen discovery, where complete genome sequences of pathogens are analyzed using advanced bioinformatics tools to identify potential antigenic targets for vaccine development.

             The speaker emphasized how large-scale genomic databases and computational platforms help identify surface proteins, virulence factors, and conserved antigenic regions that can serve as strong vaccine candidates. Real-world examples of genome-based vaccine research were briefly highlighted to show practical applications in infectious disease control. He also encouraged microbiology students to gain interdisciplinary skills in bioinformatics, programming, and data analysis to remain competitive in modern biomedical research.
