On 14th August 2025, the Department of Chemistry organized a sapling plantation activity at a park in Ambattur, Chennai. More than 20 students from the department enthusiastically took part in the drive. The activity involved selecting a suitable site, preparing the soil, and planting saplings using systematic techniques.
Participants gained practical experience in identifying appropriate plant species for the local environment, including hibiscus, jasmine, flame of the woods, young mango trees, and bitter leaf. They also learned about proper spacing, planting depth, watering, and mulching methods essential for healthy sapling growth.
This initiative not only fostered environmental awareness but also instilled a sense of social responsibility among the students. The plantation drive emphasized the importance of sustainability, biodiversity, and the conservation of green spaces in urban areas.
