| On 27th September 2025, the Department of Microbiology with IQAC organized an Industrial Visit to “Oferr Nallayan Spirulina Production and Training Centre” Navalur, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Mr. K. Rathna Rajasingam, Managing Director, OFERR, who delivered an insightful talk on the Overview of Spirulina Cultivation, highlighting its nutritional importance, role in combating malnutrition, cultivation methods, marketing potential, and socio-economic benefits Mrs. Indumathi & Mr. Vijaykumar, Trainer, OFERR, who demonstrated the hands-on training in spirulina cultivation and harvesting, covering aspects such as pond preparation, maintenance of culture conditions, nutrient medium composition, harvesting using fine cloth filtration, drying, and packaging. The visit further included field exposure, where students observed azolla cultivation units and learned techniques of waterbed preparation, inoculation, maintenance, and applications of azolla as biofertilizer and cattle feed. Additionally, students also visited the integrated farming systems, which combine fish culture, azolla, dairy farm and plant cultivation for optimal resource utilization, and a demonstration of the biogas plant, showcasing the conversion of organic waste into biogas for cooking fuel and slurry as manure. |
