Herbal Garden Harvesting and Sales

📅Date: August 21, 2025

The Department of Biochemistry organized an extension activity titled “Herbal Garden Harvest and Sale” on 21st August 2025. The initiative aimed to promote the use of traditional medicinal plants while providing students with hands-on learning experiences on the practical applications of biochemistry in everyday life.

As part of the activity, various medicinal plants grown in the college’s herbal garden were harvested by the students. The garden, carefully maintained by both staff and students, showcased healthy growth and diversity. Some of the prominent herbal plants harvested included:

  • Vendhaya Keerai (Fenugreek greens)
  • Pirandai (Adamant creeper)
  • Thuthuvalai (Solanum trilobatum)
  • Kesavardhini (False daisy / Bhringraj)

The harvested plants were systematically collected, cleaned, packaged, and made available for sale within the college premises. Students of the Biochemistry Department actively participated in every stage of the process, gaining practical exposure to teamwork and management.

The event received enthusiastic support from the Principal, Vice Principal, faculty members, and students across departments. Many staff and students purchased the herbal plants, appreciating the initiative and its purpose.

This activity not only raised awareness about the significance of herbal medicine but also provided students with valuable skills in teamwork, entrepreneurship, and community engagement. The funds collected from the sale will be utilized for the further development of the herbal garden and to support future extension activities.
