IQAC & Women’s cell organized an Health awareness program on Prevention of cancer on “International Women’s Day 2021". Dr. P. Jovita .M. Martin Daniel, Associate Professor, Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Hospital, Porur, Chennai delivered a lecture on cancer. The objective of the event was to highlight about the early detection and hazards of cancer and to build effort to raise awareness and reduce the stigma of cancer. Our resource person Dr. Jovita Martin, briefed about the key risk factors of cancer and spoke about the importance of making healthier lifestyle choices. The violation of geochemistry (soil, water and air) and its link to the mutation and triggering of oncogenes was clearly explained. She also gave us a wide insight about the causes and types of cancer with some live examples.
Dr. Jovita insisted about the early detection through screening, which makes the disease easily treatable. 101`Women staff and students attended the program and got information about mammograms, clinical breast exam and breast self-exam and also they come to know that most of the cancer can be treated when it is diagnosed at earlier stage.
