The Department of English organized a Panel Discussion on " Women In Media : Beyond the Glass Celing". Ms. Keerthana, Asst.Prof,Department of English, the Moderator, began the Panel Discussion of the Reporters Club with an introductory note about the college, English department and journalism, followed by the Invocation to God.
Mrs. Deivika Prema Asst. Prof, Department of English welcomed the guest/host of the day and delivered a brief introduction about the chief guest/hostMr. Vijay Srinivas.
Mrs. Kamala Balakrishnan, Principal of Annai Violet Arts and Science College addressed the gathering and extended a warm welcome to the panel members.
The host/ mediator of the panel Mr. Vijay Srinivas, began the session by introducing the panellists of the day; Ms. Vidyashree Dharmaraj, Ms. Induja Ragunathan, Ms. Parvathi, Ms. Nandhini Vellaisamy. The host also gave an insight about the range of issues that prevails in media such as gender inequality, #me toomovement and feminist journalism. The panel discussion began with the conversation around the trending tag in different social media,‘future is female and slowly moved on to gender inequality,issues faced by women,casteism, racism and other forms of discrimination.The panel also discussed about various ways in which the newsroom can be inclusive and empowering. This panel discussion was a revelation to young students and aspiring Journalist alike, since it threw light on major obstacles faced by women in newsroom environment and the solutions to overcome these obstacles.
The discussion was followed by questionnaire session where the panel members answered the queries raised/posted by the viewers in the live chat. The panel discussion concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Mrs. Rinemol, Asst. Prof, Department of English.
