International conference - Recent Advances in Biochemical and Material Sciences 2020  (24th November 2020)

IQAC and the Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry and Physics of Annai Violet Arts and Science College organized an International Conference on the topic “Recent Advances in Biochemical and Material Sciences 2020” on 24th and 25th November 2020. The conference started formally with a prayer song by the College Choir and our Principal Dr. Kamala Balakrishnan welcomed the gathering with welcome address. Dr. L. Parimala, Head, Department of Chemistry briefed about the theme of the conference and the Department.                      

First session of Day 1 started at 9 am and was addressed by eminent speaker Ms.Devika Kishnan, Research Associate, University of Connecticut, US on the topic “Nanotechnology in Biomedical Research”. She explained in detail about the techniques and applications of nano particles in different fields. The session was enlightening and lively.

Second session of Day 1 started at 10.30 a.m and distinguished guest speaker Dr. Prem Saran Tirumalai, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, Dayalbagh Educational Institute, Uttar Pradesh, India gave a lecture on the topic “Transcriptomics for understanding life functions”. He briefed about the applications of transcriptomics for understanding life functions.

Third session of Day 1 of the international conference started at 1 p.m. The renowned guest speaker Dr. Thiyagarajan Santhanamari, Assistant Professor and Coordinator, Department of Microbiology & Immunology, Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, Northern Border University, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia addressed on the topic “An insight into pathogenesis of Helicobacter pylori induced Autoimmune Thyroiditis”. He gave a brief note on the prevalence and significance of Autoimmune thyroiditis.

The last session of day 1 started at 4 pm and was addressed by esteemed guest speaker Dr. Pachamuthu Kandasamy, Senior Director, Head of Medicinal Chemistry, Wave Life Sciences, Cambridge, US  on the topic “Oligonucleotide Therapeutics”. He briefed about the oligonucleotide targeted drug delivery, chemical modification, mechanism of action and the therapeutic uses of different types of oligonucleotides.

With these four sessions, the first day of the international virtual conference ended successfully.

First Session of Day 2 international conference on 25.11.2020 started at 10 am with a prayer song by our college choir. This session was addressed by Mr. Velmurugan N Ramachandra, Vice President Engineering R&D, AMP Medtech, Marlborough MA USA  on the topic “Digital Advancements in Biomedical Devices”. He educated about the advanced devices used in the fields of biomedical research.

Second session of Day 2 was presented by Dr. AnandaKumar Pandi, PhD., Assistant Professor, Department of Biochemistry, All India Institute of Medical Science, Jharkhand at 11.30 am on the topic “Carcinogens – The key role players in Cancer”. He explained about the causes, symptoms and prevention of cancer.

The last session of Day 3 started at 2 pm and was presented by Dr. Kanagathara, Associate Professor of Physics, Saveetha School of Engineering, Chennai on the topic “Perspectives of Material Science and its Diverse Applications”. She briefed about the applications of material science in various biomedical fields.  

All the sessions were highly informative and interactive. Feedback was received from all the participants for all the sessions to upgrade the standard of the forthcoming events. At the end of the virtual conference, the aim of the conference was fulfilled; participants received informative insights from all the guest speakers, the leading professionals in the field of Biochemistry. The conference was highly educative for the students and young researchers who wish to pursue research in bio chemicals.

Apart from lectures, poster presentations were screened in Zoom. Totally 64 E-posters was received from various institutions all over the world. All the posters were acknowledged, and selected posters were allowed to present through the zoom platform and the best posters were honoured.

BEST PRESENTATION AWARD was won by Ms.Surekha Ramachandran, SRM Dental College.

1st place was won by: Mr.Dhananjay K.Dhruv, N.V.Patel College of Pure and Applied Sciences.

2nd place was won by: Mr.Niraj S.Topare, School of Chemical Engineering, Dr.Vishwanath Karad MIT World Peace University, Pune.

3rd place was won by: Ms.Rimjhim Pathak, Dayalbagh Educational Institute, Agra

The conference successfully came to an end with vote of thanks proposed by Dr. M. Prabhakaran, Head, Department of Physics.
